[ Esther turns on the device, and things are out of focus for a moment as she sets it on a small table. She sits back and stifles a yawn before looking directly at it. It's pretty obvious she hasn't slept well last night, but she does her best to appear more upbeat and cheerful than she actually is. ]

...Father Tres Iqus has returned home.

[ There's a bit of silence. Esther draws her knees up to her chin, and wraps her arms around them. ]

It's for the best, of course, but...

[ She trails off. It's always hard when someone you know leaves...even androids. ]

[ Esther looks like she wants to say something more. The truth is she's feeling a bit lonely, but can't bring herself to admit it. So instead she offers the device a weak smile before shutting it off. ]

There has been a lot of talk about Halloween lately, but have any definitive plans been made for the children yet? I hope Saturday will be a nice day. The kids here deserve some fun.

[ Esther has spent several hours cleaning the apartment. Washing and scrubbing and re-washing...whatever it took to clean up the blood. Without access to proper cleaning supplies it made the task harder, but there wasn't anything she could do about that. Whether or not she was going to continue living there, it was something she felt she needed to do.

When things were as clean as they were going to get, Esther took a few minutes to wash up herself before getting down to business. ]


Has anyone figured out the cause behind this recent outbreak of [ ... ] violence? Or how many were affected? I would like to know, if and when someone has that information.

Duchess, how are you? I hope you weren't hurt too badly this past week.

[ A pause as she debates whether or not to add the last part. ]

Father Tres, I have a favor to ask, if you aren't too busy.

[ There is definitely something disturbing about a blood-soaked nun.

The device is turned on with shaky hands. Esther's breath comes out in ragged gasps, and a few whimpers can be heard here and there. As things start to come into focus, you begin to see that some very bad things have been going in here.

Esther is covered in blood. There are a few patches where it has already dried, though most of the wounds are still fresh. Scratches cover her face, neck, arms; every bit of exposed skin. Her clothes are disheveled and torn. Perspiration is dripping down her forehead, mixing with blood. ]

...I can't take it anymore. Too much death, too much hardship, too many questions and lies and deceit and evil and half-truths and LIES!

[ Her voice is full of anguish, and suddenly Esther drops the device, wrapping her arms around herself. Her fingernails dig into already torn flesh, drawing more blood. ]

I've had enough, done enough, caused enough -- [ she bites her lip ] problems, for everyone, and I'm tired! Why can't God see that?! I'm shouting and yelling and screaming and He isn't getting it!! I SAID I WAS SORRY!

[ Her voice keeps getting louder and she sounds more and more upset. ]

I don't want to go to hell! I'm so so scared, but I can't take it, can't STAND it and I'm tired and don't deserve to be here and Bishop Laura would hate me but I'm really no good, not a saint --

[ There's a short, bitter laugh. ]

The Lady Saint. What were they thinking? I HATE THE LIES!

[ Esther takes a deep breath and drops her arms. Reaches behind her for the knife she had been using. Suddenly she seems a little bit calmer, but also -- a little more sad. ]

I'm sorry everyone. I promise it'll all stop. I'll suffer here before I burn, so maybe hell won't seem so bad.

Thank you for being my partner, Father Abel. Please...stay safe, and don't you burn, too.

[ And the video times out. ]

This relative bit of peacefulness is a nice change. We should make the most of it while we can. I'd be willing to help with any sort of repairs that are needed.

I should probably look into finding a new partner for morning patrols...not that it's imperative, but I enjoyed working with Scheris.

Father Anderson, I'd like to visit sometime soon when you're not busy. Would that be okay?

[ It takes Esther a while before she figures out how to word this properly. ]

Let's say someone you knew and trusted for a very long time betrayed you. They lied manipulated killed people attempted to did some awful things. Some people would even say because of those actions, this person's soul is..."beyond repair".

But if that person came to regret what they had done and wanted to repent...could you forgive them? Is every person capable of being saved?

...Or are some things simply unforgivable, no matter how much you repent?

...Hello? This is Esther Blanchett. I -- well, I don't know how long I've been gone but I've returned, and --

[ There's a pause. She sounds tired and a bit awkward. Then in a slightly hopeful tone -- ]

Father Abel, are you still here? Father Tres? Duchess?

[/VOICE]

It's been three days. Scheris really did leave. I'll miss her; she was a good person.

Getting to know people from different worlds, making friends...it's strange. On one hand it's exciting to learn about these other worlds and what they're like. If we weren't here that would be impossible. I never would have met Scheris.

On the other...you won't see them again. If they're from different worlds or entirely different times, it doesn't matter how attached you become -- you'll remain apart.

...At least, that's what I've gathered. Has anyone experienced something different?

[ When the communicator clicks on, you can hear a rather miserable-sounding Esther. ]

Is it really too much to ask for the snow to stop? I mean, it's not like we don't have winter where I'm from but --

[ And here, there's a rather loud unlady-like sneeze. ]

...It's not fun when you're sick.

[ When the communicator clicks on you can see Esther and Scheris in a hospital room. The nun's communicator was set on a table at the foot of the bed and was jostled when her visitor showed up. Esther is sitting up in bed, looking restless and tense. She's been patched up with bandages on her head and the side of her body that hit the ground.

Despite the language barrier the two seem to be communicating fine. The younger of the two motions for the redhead's attention and points out the window at the sky that's clearing up. As Esther looks, Scheris takes her communicator and writes something out. She shows her friend with a grin when she looks back over. Whatever it is, it's something amusing.

Esther does her best to smile in return. She knows that Scheris means well, but can't really focus when she hasn't heard from Abel yet. So she gestures for the other communicator and quickly writes down an apology, asking for a few moments of privacy.

Once Scheris leaves for a moment Esther swings her legs over the side of the bed and stands up, wincing a bit before reaching for the device. She's still a little out of it and doesn't realize that it's been on. ]

So we have more murders being committed, as well as some sort of strange...illness? That's all I can think of right now, but people are acting strange.
